Duleep Singh's justification of his rejection of British subjugation, and agitation for insurrection in the Punjab in a document drawn up by a barrister at Lincoln's Inn for circulation to the Queen and leading public figures, as well as the Maharajah's friends. Joseph Cowen (1800-1873) was the radical Liberal Member of Parliament for Newcastle-upon-Tyne first elected in 1865. His caricature appeared in Vanity Fair in 1872.
