First French edition 4to, pp.xix, 364, 47 lithographed plates, of which 10 are coloured by hand, 2 folding maps heightened in colour. A clean copy with wide margins to the text, bound in contemporary red half morocco, neatly rebacked preserving the original spine with gilt ornaments. A few plates slightly spotted as usual.

An interesting combination in French translation of the works of Crawfurd and Raffles, the two major writers on Java during the British occupation. The fine lithographed plates are the work of J.B.A.M. Jobard of Brussels, a pioneer of the art.
