A work on the lives of the emperors of China, issued as the seventh of fourteen volumes of the universal history begun by the Jesuit Antonio Foresti (1625-1692) in four volumes and continued after his death. The final ten volumes were published irregularly at Venice from 1693 until 1735. This volume, complete in itself, contains a full history of the Chinese dynasties from ancient times to the reign of the Kangxi Emperor, with an account of the Jesuit mission's success at his court, all compiled by Vittore Silvio Grandi. The final entry is dated 1697. The text includes printed genealogical charts for each dynasty and a chronological list of the emperors.
