Reproductions of twelve watercolours by Mrs Barnard originally painted in 1912. Mrs Barnard, married to the Divisional Engineer of the FMS Railways, was active in Kuala Lumpur society from her arrival in around 1903. She also provided the colour illustrations for Cuthbert Woodville Harrison's Illustrated Guide to the Federated Malay States, issued in several editions between 1910 and 1923. The Malay States Information Agency was established in London in 1910 to promote the attractions of the Malay States under British protection to investors, planters, miners, and tourists.
