Léon Wieger (1856-1933), Jesuit missionary, went to China in 1887, where he worked as a doctor in Zhili before devoting himself to editing and publishing Chinese texts. This work contains critical texts of the Chinese historians Sima Guang (1019-1086) and Zhu Xi (1130-1200). It was first issued in 1903-5.
