Crawfurd, John History of the Indian Archipelago. Containing an Account of the Manners, Arts, Languages, Religions, Institutions, and Commerce of its Inhabitants. London Archibald Constable. 1820
First edition, three volumes, pp.viii, 520, vi, 563, vi, 554, 34 plates, folding map. This set from the Church Missionary Society Library has some problems but is essentially in very good condition. Each volume has a stamp on the title page and extensive stamps on the end-papers. The contents are otherwise clean, though two title pages suffer from off-setting. The set has been rebacked but poor quality replacement end-papers were used and one of these has come adrift. The bindings are in very good condition though the spine of volume 3 does not match 1 and 2. The two alphabet plates have been misplaced and are in Volume 3 rather than 2 as called for. Plate 2, Volume I, p.17, "A native of the black and brown complexioned races" is present, but detached.
