Dudok de Wit (1843 - 1913), better known as Kees de Tippelaar, was a wealthy eccentric who made a number of long distance walks on which he often collected ethnographic objects. This scarce privately-published collection of plates includes itineraries of his walks through East and Central Java, the Moluccas, Sulawesi, and elsewhere, in the 1860's, accompanied by lithograph plates after photographs.
