James Morier (1780-1849) was Private Secretary to Harford Jones on his diplomatic mission to Persia in 1809. He was despatched back to London with the text of the Preliminary Treaty, and was accompanied by Mirza Abul Hasan, the first Qajar envoy to Britain. The Mirza was a big hit in London, and provided Morier with the subject of his later books and the title of this.
