World War One map of Mesopotamia & the Gulf

[Map. Iraq & Kuwait] Lower Mesopotamia. Between Baghdad and the Persian Gulf. London Geographical Section, General Staff 1915
Lithographed map, 58 x 63 cm, scale 1:1,000,000, dissected and mounted on linen. No.2563. A very good copy folding in original cloth portfolio. Ownership signature of Capt. G.[erard] Bonham Carter, 3rd Bn Royal West Kent Regt., May 1916.

A map of Mesopotamia from Baghdad to Basra, showing Kuwait. This map was lithographed in December, 1915, corrected and revised from the November 1907 first edition, presumably for the use of military British personnel in the theatre. The 2nd Battalion of the Royal West Kent Regiment was deployed in Iraq from 1915 until the end of the first world war, and the 3rd Battalion was a garrison unit in the Home Counties throughout the war. Gerard Bonham Carter may have purchased this map prior to transferring to Iraq, as the 2nd Battalion lost two companies in action in 1916.
