First edition. Three portfolios, atlas folio, containing 163 plates in total, 51 in colour, with the three corresponding text volumes, 4to, pp.xix, 55, folding map; vii, 70, 8 plates, text illustrations; viii, 100, 9 plates. Volume four is NOT present. The original cloth portfolios and their contents are in very good condition. The text volumes are in original cloth with gilt titles on spines and boards, and original dust-jackets. The second and third volumes are slightly warped, the dust-jacket of volume one is chipped and stained, there are remnants of a label on second volume's dust-jacket. Internal hinges of all three volumes are cracked, but firm. Contents are clean and in very good condition.

The first part is the 1718 third edition; the second part is dated 1717 and appears to be the first issue; the third part, dated 1714, is the first edition. Malabar alphabet in text. A very good set attractively bound in period style half morocco, gilt, cloth boards. Text block trimmed, just touching marginal annotations. Map very lightly age toned. Occasional later (c.1800?) annotation in ink elucidating names of places and deities. Large later pencil ownership inscriptions of P. Brown on title-page and first leaf.
