Owen Rutter served in North Borneo between 1910 and 1915. He returned to Britain during World War One and wrote over 50 works of science fiction, history and travel. The Monster of Mu is a lost race novel set on a remote Pacific island, but based on the Benoni monster of North Borneo. It features the cruel priests of Mu, a race of threatened pygmies, and a monster which protects their sunken island from intruders. An entertaining read.
